The method involves operating a drive strand of a motor vehicle in a creep mode, when a gear is inserted into a transmission and an accelerator pedal and a brake pedal are not operated. The transducer creep torque transmitted from the transducer during creep mode based on pump speed and turbine speed is compared with regulator creep torque that is generated by a speed regulator during the creep mode. The torque transmitted from the hydrodynamic starting element is influenced based on the comparison result.
