The method involves receiving a signal output by a sensor (12) e.g. torque sensor, and evaluating the received signal by a processing device (14), where the signal is associated to a force effect. An output signal (17) is produced by an output device based on the evaluated signal, where the output signal corresponds to condition of a chassis component. Another chassis component is controlled by the produced output signal. A road characteristic is determined based on the evaluation of the received signal. The sensor is provided for receiving a signal associated to application of force. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for determining a condition of a chassis component based on a signal output by a sensor (2) a computer program comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for determining the condition of the chassis component (3) a computer program product comprising the set of instructions to perform a method for determining the condition of the chassis component.
