The method involves switching a transmission (3) of a drivetrain between a power engine (1) and an output (2). An engine control device (4) and a transmission control device (5) are assigned to the power engine and the transmission for controlling and regulating operation of the engine and the transmission, respectively. Type of engine moment reduction is determined by the control device depending on an amount of the engine moment reduction needed for a gear shift to be performed and depending on a comfortable execution of the gear shift to be carried-out. An independent claim is also included for a transmission control device for controlling and regulating operation of a transmission.
