The method involves activating a starter motor for rotating a crankshaft, and decelerating the starter motor at a predetermined position of the crankshaft to position the crankshaft. An armature or an armature winding of the starter motor is short circuited by a relay, a semiconductor switch, a resistor or a coil, for decelerating the starter motor. The starter motor is operated with a free-wheel i.e. front tooth free-wheel, during deceleration of the starter motor. An independent claim is also included for a positioning arrangement for positioning a crankshaft of a drive assembly i.e. internal combustion engine.
