The machine (1) has an actuating element (45) for displacing a switch cam. A needle transport device displaces needle bars (9, 10) during stitching along a transport direction by pivoting a needle bar support about a pivoting axis. The switch cam is designed such that a switching-effective surface causes pendulum motion of a switch of the needle bars, where the pendulum motion is carried out based on transportation of sewing needles (11, 12). The pivoting axis is spaced apart from the switch cam, and runs parallel to a bearing plate (13).
