The reactor has a cooling screen (4) installed in a pressure shell (6) in a gas tight manner. A cooling screen opening (5) is provided between the cooling screen and the pressure shell. A pilot burner (1) is arranged with a nitrogen-flushed monitoring channel. A joint (8) is arranged between the monitoring channel and the cooling screen opening. A tension safety device is connected between the cooling screen opening and a quench ring (18) in a pressure tight manner. The safety device comprises a container (26) filled with a sealing liquid/water seal.
