The core has individual strips that are placed one on the other, where the strips are of arbitrary width and made of paper, plastic or aluminum. The strips are connected with each other in an alternating manner by double bars (1) and single bars (2) to develop a honeycombed structure. A predetermined folding line (3) is provided in the single bars. Foldings correspond with shaping in a transverse direction and/or a longitudinal direction at the predetermined folding line. The folding line has two X-shaped running straight lines that are cut by a perpendicularly running straight line. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing an expandable honeycomb core.
