The method involves receiving two messages (M) transmitted by a vehicle (F), and storing and assigning an actual measured value of a measuring parameter e.g. actual position, of the vehicle to the messages of the transmitted vehicle. The stored actual measured value assigned to the vehicle is tested for plausibility, and a confidence value for the vehicle is determined based on the plausibility. The messages of the vehicle to be evaluated are evaluated based on the determined confidence value of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a device for evaluating a message transmitted by a vehicle.
