The method involves measuring a surface area of a bore hole (12) formed in a workpiece (10), and determining a depth profile of the surface of the bore hole along a circumference of the bore. The depth profile is adjusted according to a curve using mathematical algorithms. The lateral misalignment of a cylindrical electrochemical machining electrode (14) is determined based on shape, depth and pitch of the curve, distance between grooves and an angular position of the electrode.
