The device has a protection unit including a sensor that allows inference of water-level at a closed flap gate (3). A valve is opened for opening the flap gate, during exceeding of a threshold value. Another protection unit has a float that mechanically opens the valve, when the float is lifted based on the amount of the water-level above the threshold value. A pneumatic valve and a pressure cylinder control the position of the flap gate. The former protection unit drives the pneumatic valve by a jet of compressed air.
