The method involves switching on and off of radiation sources (11, 12) over light control signals (33, 34), where the sources exhibit wavelengths ranging from 4-6 micrometers and 8-12 micrometers, respectively. A dual-band Fabry Perot interferometer (1) is aligned over a wavelength range over a control voltage (38), and a tuning direction of the interferometer is determined. The direction is changed by changing the control voltage from a low voltage level to a high voltage level and/or from the high voltage level to the low voltage level. The voltage is synchronized with the control signals. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating a dual-band Fabry Perot interferometer (2) a method for testing a dual-band Fabry Perot interferometer (3) a device for gas concentration measurement.
