The method involves starting image recording before entry of contrasting agent bolus within an interesting area i.e. head, of a patient. The arrival time of contrasting agent bolus within the interesting area is automatically determined for controlling and/or evaluating images. A sum of image data of all pixels for each recorded image and/or provisional subtraction image derived from the recorded image are determined as a course of sum values. A time point of change of sum values in the course exceeding a threshold value is determined as the arrival time. An independent claim is also included for a medical image recording device comprising a radiation source.
