The engine has a crankshaft comprising two main bearing journals (17, 23) and a crankpin (20) that extends between two crank webs (19, 24). A separating point is provided close to one of the crank webs (24), where two parts (11, 12) of the crankshaft adjoin at the crankpin. Two connecting rods (13, 14) comprise large connecting rod eyes (29, 30) and axially arranged on a side of the separating point on the crankpin. The separating point lies close to one of the crank webs.
