The method involves identifying an R-wave signal in reference ECG signal (3.1,3,2) and determining reference quantity from reference ECG signal which is in time interval that starts before R-wave and lasts up to occurrence of R-wave. A comparison rule is generated based on reference quantity. The ECG signal in which R-wave is to be identified, is measured. The measured ECG signal is compared with reference quantity based on comparison rule. A trigger signal is output based on positive result of comparison. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) ECG measuring device; and (2) magnetic resonance scanner.
