The system has a stationary sending and receiving unit (3) including a communication unit for producing a bi-directional connection between the stationary sending and receiving unit and a mobile sending and receiving unit (6). A presence detection mechanism detects presence of a person in or near a motor vehicle (1). A presence signal is generated during presence of the person. A control unit (2) transmits a warning signal to a warning apparatus for producing a warning message during presence or non-existence of presence signal and/or presence or non-existence of a close communication signal. The warning message is audio warning message, visual warning message or haptic warning message.
