The device has a lower base-surface element (6) connected to a body-lateral cross beam by reference break-connections and provided with wedge elements located adjacent to folded supporting guides. The supporting guides are rotated downward on wedge surfaces along a shifting direction in case of wall impact during rear shifting of a bumper cover (5). The supporting guides form a sliding bevel for the lower base-surface element for sliding below the cross beam such that the device remains rigid in an impact area in case of pedestrian impact.
