In a device for controlling a motor, an input switching unit to an input signal is input via an input path of a crank signal on a cam signal, when it is determined that the crank signal is abnormal. A process a signal generating unit generates a crank input process signal, if an abnormality determination unit a is determined that the crank signal is abnormal. The crank input process signal has a level which is repeated in a specific direction changes. Each level change of the crank input process signal is in a corresponding change of level of the crank signal synchronized. A monitoring unit monitors a level change of the crank input process signal, when the abnormality determination unit a is determined that the crank signal is abnormal.
