The machine (1) has a stator axis (4) provided diagonal to a bearing axis (5), where the machine is a direct drive of a railway vehicle. A housing (6) is provided with front sides (7, 8) whose surface-normal part (9) is provided diagonal to a rotor axis. A bearing plate (10) is provided with a wedge-shaped flange and a bearing retainer. The flange and the retainer are designed symmetrically, two symmetrical axes are parallel to each other, and a third symmetry axis of a bearing (3) e.g. roller and needle bearing, is provided diagonal to the axes of the flange and the retainer. An independent claim is also included for a device for mounting a shaft of a railway vehicle.
