The method involves detecting air temperature (8) and air mass (7), which is sucked by an air filter. Energy amount supplied to the air filter is determined using the mass or the temperature by integration of a product from the air mass and air temperature over a time period. Determination is made whether the air filter is frosted based on the detected temperature or the energy amount supplied to the filter. The determination is made that the filter is frosted, when the air temperature lies below a temperature threshold value and the energy amount lies below an energy threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle comprising a processing unit and a drive motor.
