The method involves dividing a head box (10) in multiple parallel food zones. Each food zone is charged with two different material suspensions that are obtained by the fractionation of a material suspension which is introduced in a short fiber fraction (M1) and a long fiber fraction (M2). The long fiber fraction contains the long and stiff fibers, where the cross profile of the fiber web is optimized by the regulation of add-on ratio of the short fiber fraction to the long fiber fraction in the individual parallel food zones. An independent claim is included for a system for optimizing characteristics of a fiber web during its manufacturing.
