The method involves controlling illumination devices (2-5) e.g. LED headlight, of a vehicle (F) during shortfall of a preset threshold (vg) of a vehicle speed such that a shape and an alignment of an illumination region (B) is changed before and/or laterally adjacent a vehicle (F). Light distributions (L1-L3) of the illumination devices are adjusted. Light directions of the light distributions are changed. The illumination region is varied when the vehicle is within a closed locality. A danger spot (G) e.g. traffic light, is detected by an optical detection unit (1).
