The device (1) has a magazine (2) with vertical storage planes (12) for accommodation of storage containers for supplying printing plate stacks. A movement device horizontally moves the containers from the magazine into a separation device (16). A lift (6) vertically moves the containers within the separation device into a separation position (14) for removing the printing plates from the containers or into a release position (4) for releasing the containers from the separation device. A release plane (13) is attached above the storage planes of the magazine in the release position. An independent claim is also included for a method for handling printing plates.
