A method for estimating a blur - kernel - distribution for the visual iris, the determining a first mathematical relationship between a sharpness position of a camera lens and a spacing between the lens and an iris, whose image is to be detected by the camera. The first relationship is used for the purpose of, a second mathematical relationship between the sharpness position of the lens and a standard deviation, which is a gaussian blur - kernel - distribution is defined, to estimate. A position of an eye of a living being is predicted to a future point in time. A focus position of the camera lens, on the basis of the predicted position of the eye adjusted. The camera lens with the set focus position is used to an image of the eye of the living being to the point in time to produce. An actual position of the eye of the living being to the point in time is detected. The first relationship is used for the purpose of, a desired focus position of the lens on the basis of the actual position of the eye of the living being to the time to ascertain.
