Perylene dye compounds (VI) are new. Perylene dye compounds of formula (VI) are new. R 1-R 9alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, cycloalkyl, heterocycloalkyl (all optionally substituted), H or halo, where optionally one or more CH 2-units of the alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl is optionally replaced by O, S, Se, Te, -CH=N-, -N=CH-, arylene, heteroarylene, cycloalkylene or heterocycloalkylene, and the alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl is optionally substituted by halo, CN or oxo; and X : alkylene, alkenylene alkynylene (where one or more CH 2units of the alkylene, alkenylene and alkynylene is optionally replaced by O, S, Se, Te, -CH=N-, -N=CH-, arylene, heteroarylene, cycloalkylene or heterocycloalkylene, and the alkylene, alkenylene or alkynylene is optionally substituted by halo, CN or oxo).
