The system (100) has a full field of view (FOV) station (104) for capturing a reference image of the lens, and the reference image is processed to determine the presence and absence of defect on the lens. A magnified field of view station (106) captures magnified image that is magnified view of the lens and the magnified image is processed to determine the quality of acceptable and unacceptable defect. The optical property of the lens is determined upon absence of defect and when the quality of the defect is determined as acceptable. An independent claim is included for lens inspection method.
