The method involves directing rings (5-9) e.g. flexible rubber/plastic ring such as gasket, of a drain pipe, on conveyor belts (2, 3) to an optical testing device. The rings are mechanically stretched by extensible elements e.g. rolls (14, 15), in a circumferential direction during testing of the rings, where the elements are inserted in a ring section. The rings are tested in an area of the elements connecting tangential lines. Two of the elements are movable apart from each other in a stretching direction, and the other two elements are movable transverse to the stretched direction. An independent claim is also included for a device for testing a flexible rubber/plastic ring.
