Rotary furnace has a sealing ring with a rectangular cross-section between the rotating section and the stationary end wall. It has a glued butt joint (3) fitted with a mesh sheath over its whole circumference and has circumferential fibers (5, 6) over the joint to reduce the tensile strain. An Independent claim is included for a method of making the seal.
