The method involves providing a dummy (M) including a region with sensors (C), and positioning a protection (P) in front of the region. Penetrating elements with determined energy and dynamics are applied to the region not fitted with a protective equipment (E). A set of measurements of mechanical parameters resulting from action of the elements are obtained from the sensors. The elements are applied to the region having the equipment, and another set of measurements of the parameters is obtained. Level of protection afforded by the equipment is determined by processing the measurements. An independent claim is also included for an instrumented dummy for testing a protective equipment that affords protection against penetrating elements such as bullets and penetrative side arms, comprising a dummy including ballistic fiber sheets and a synthetic armor.
