Fuel's sulphur quantity detecting method for e.g. supercharged diesel engine, of motor vehicle, involves determining duration of purges of nitrogen oxide in nitrogen-oxide trap and comparing reduction of duration in time with threshold
The method involves determining duration of successive purges of nitrogen oxide collected in a nitrogen-oxide trap (10) mounted in an exhaust line (9) of an internal combustion engine (1) by measuring richness of gas in downstream of the nitrogen oxide trap. Reduction of the duration of the purges in time is compared with a threshold. An alarm is triggered when the reduction of the duration of the purges exceeds the threshold. Desulphurization strategy of the nitrogen oxide trap is modified when the reduction of the duration of the purges in the time exceeds the threshold. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine of motor vehicle equipped with a control system of fuel injection controlled by an electronic control unit and with a nitrogen oxide trap mounted in an exhaust line.
