The method involves calculating a correction value of modification of spark advance, and comparing the correction value to a threshold value. A modification value of spark advance is stored, where the stored modification value of spark advance is equal to the correction value or equal to limitation of correction value based on comparison result. The spark advance is modified at previous time by applying the stored modification value of spark advance at anterior time, after being returned to an operating point of an internal combustion engine at previous time. An independent claim is also included for a computer program comprising program code instructions for executing a method for controlling pinking of internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle.
