Treating organic phase non-miscible in water and containing metal compound, by mixing organic phase with aqueous phase comprising complexing agent, separating aqueous phase by liquid-liquid coalescence, and regenerating complexing agent
The process of treating an organic phase non-miscible in water and containing a metallic compound, comprises mixing the organic phase with an aqueous phase comprising a complexing agent (0.1-0.3 M) to form a complex with the metal of the metal compound and to form an emulsion, separating the aqueous phase by liquid-liquid coalescence, regenerating the complexing agent of the aqueous phase by decomposing the complex formed by passing over a cationic ion exchanger in the form of acid, and reusing the aqueous phase comprising the regenerated complexing agent in the mixing step. The volume ratio of aqueous phase on organic phase is = 1. The mixing of the aqueous phase and organic phase is carried out using a high turbulence electric mixer installed as a static mixer or a dynamic mixer, at a temperature greater than the room temperature. The dynamic mixer is an electric mixer with blades for mixing at high shear rate. The complexing agent comprises a chelating agent such as citric acid. The ion exchanger is a cationic resin in the form of acid.
