The present invention relates to a safety system of the perimeter, comprising at least one video camera (1) and at least a long range (2) illuminating the scene viewed by the camera (1). The system according to the invention is essentially characterized in that it comprises at least one reflector (3), a catadioptric system, installed in the field of the camera (1) and the associated headlight (2), and a unit (4) of analysis and processing of images and control of the cameras making it possible: - to be analyzed continuously the amplitude of the video signal in each portion of the image containing the reflector (3) and of controlling the electronic shutter of the camera (1) so that the video signal supplied by the latter is always less than and close to 100% of the maximum value of the video signal; - to be analyzed, this part of the image so as to detect any rapid variation of the signal in the zone of the image of the reflector (3), corresponding to the passage of an object or a person.
