The method involves estimating a value representing the torque provided by an internal combustion engine (1) and a value representing the torque which is transmitted to driving wheels (5a, 5b) of a vehicle. A value of resistive torque is estimated at output of the internal combustion engine, and a value of the resistive torque is estimated at the level of the wheels of the vehicle by using the estimated values. A transmission system (4) of a propulsion system (100) is connected with the wheels of the vehicle. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a data storage medium comprising computer program for executing the method for estimating values of operation parameters of a propulsion system of a motor vehicle (2) a system for estimating values of operation parameters of a propulsion system of a motor vehicle.
