PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive active material for a lead-acid battery, capable of obtaining markedly high utilization by forming holes having optimum diameters and preventing decrease in binding force between active material particles when used in a positive electrode plate of the lead-acid battery; and to provide a positive electrode plate for the lead-acid battery formed by filling the same.SOLUTION: The positive active material for the lead-acid battery contains metallic lead powder and lead oxide powder, and furthermore contains metallic powder. As the metallic powder, at least one selected from the group comprising preferably aluminum, magnesium, zinc, and tin is used. The active material contains preferably 0.2-2.0 mass%, of the mass in terms of the aluminum volume, of the metallic powder to the lead oxide powder.
