PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which water clarification and water quality preservation can be attained while simultaneously achieving an oxygen-rich environment and an oxygen-poor environment and advancing aerobic decomposition and anaerobic decomposition in parallel even when applied to a water tank or to the oxygen-rich environment such as the shallow water section of a bay.SOLUTION: In a water clarifying method using a porous material, the inside of the porous material is made to be the oxygen-poor environment, the porous material is dipped in water and anaerobic decomposition by anaerobic bacteria is made to proceed inside the porous material. Aerobic decomposition by aerobic bacteria is made to proceed at a surface layer part of the porous material. Thus anaerobic decomposition and aerobic decomposition are made to proceed in parallel and denitrification is performed.
