PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for generating an appearance inspection discriminator, fully letting a discriminator which determines whether an inspection object is defectless or not, fully learn, even when there are only a few available images showing a defect on the defective inspection object.;SOLUTION: The apparatus for generating the appearance inspection discriminator has: a pass/fail discrimination information acquisition section (15) for acquiring pass/fail discrimination information indicating which an image of the defect in a pseudo-defect image corresponds to, a defectless inspection object, or a defective inspection object, as to a plurality of pseudo-defect images presumably indicating the image of the defect occurring on the surface of the inspection object; a boundary determination section (12) for determining a boundary discriminating the defectless and defective inspection objects based on the pass/fail determination information corresponding to the plurality of pseudo-defect images; a sample generation section (16) for generating a plurality of learning samples which are sets of a characteristic amount concerning the image of the defect and a value indicating a pass/fail determination result of the inspection object with respect to the characteristic amount to be determined according to the boundary; and a discriminator learning section (17) for learning the appearance inspection discriminator, using the plurality of learning samples.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
