PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chromium-free agent for treating a metal surface which imparts excellent corrosion resistance, alkali resistance, blacking resistance and yellowing resistance, to provide a method for treating the surface of a metallic material, and to provide a surface-treated metallic material.;SOLUTION: This agent for treating the metal surface which includes an aqueous medium and, incorporated therein, (A) a cationic urethane resin which is water-soluble or in an aqueous emulsion form without silyl modification, (B) a cationic polycondensation product obtained from a phenol compound and an aldehyde, (C) a titanium compound, and (D) a compound containing at least one metal selected from Li, Mg, Al, Ca, Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, Sr, W, Ce and Mo. The blending ratio between the ingredient (A) and the ingredient (B) is, as a solid content mass ratio, (A):(B)=99:1 to 50:50. Further, by causing the silyl modification of the ingredient (A), and incorporating an acid ingredient (E), a vanadium compound (F) and/or a silane coupling agent (G), a further improvement in film performance can be achieved.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
