PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an application device and an application method capable of easily and surely lubricating a chain drive, without having influence on a travel characteristic of the chain drive.;SOLUTION: The application device 21 of the chain drive 10 includes a rail part for supporting a chain 13 of the chain drive 10 on the long edge side and forming a contact area of contacting with the chain 13. At least a part of the contact area is constituted of a solid lubricant applied to the chain 13. Since the rail part is relatively longer in the contact area of contacting with the chain than the application device in which a part of contacting with the chain is only a part, even when a relative speed is fast, operation of the chain does not substantially receive influence.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
