PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for reducing surgical time and use of sub-fascial knots or tacks. PSOLUTION: The system includes: a means of rolling a barbed suture 104 having a distal end attached to a needle 114 and a surgical mesh 102 to form a rolled mesh, wherein the needle 114 is oriented substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the rolled mesh; a laparoscopic device configured to transfer the rolled mesh into a body cavity; a means of unrolling and laying the rolled surgical mesh under a ventral hernia in an abdominal wall; a means of threading the needle 114 and the barbed suture 104 through the surgical mesh 102 and the abdominal wall; and a means of trimming the barbed suture 104.
