PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for removing contaminants adhering to metal scrap and a method for removing the contaminants adhering to the metal scrap capable of reducing emissions of hazardous substances such as dioxin and volatile organic compounds to the atmosphere and reducing emissions of carbon dioxide by reducing use amount of fossil fuel used when the contaminants are burned and removed such as heavy oil and natural gas. PSOLUTION: The device 1 for removing the contaminants adhering to the metal scrap includes: a heating furnace 2 burning and removing the contaminants by heating the metal scrap; and a catalyst tank 3 including a catalyst wherein metal is supported by a carrier. The catalyst tank 3 is connected to the heating furnace 2, and gas generated by combustion of the contaminants is made to pass through the catalyst tank 3 and discharged to the atmosphere.
