PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphor for backlight excellent in life characteristics, and to provide a fluorescent lamp and an image display device using the phosphor.;SOLUTION: The fluorescent lamp for backlight has a fluorescent film that emits light excited by vacuum ultraviolet or ultraviolet ray whose wavelength is ≥170 nm and ≤300 nm, wherein the fluorescent film contains a terbium-activated rare earth magnesium aluminate phosphor represented by formula [1]: (LxCeyTb1-x-y)2O3zMgO nAl2O3, wherein L is at least one sort of rare earth element selected from the group consisting of La, Gd, and Y, and x, y, z, and n are each a number satisfying conditions of 0x0.95, 0≤y0.95, 0.1z4.0, and 7≤n.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
