PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spin injection magnetization reversal element which has high perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and moreover does not deteriorate the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy by heat treatment, a magnetic random access memory and an optical modulator constituted by using this spin injection magnetization reversal element, a display device, a holography apparatus, and a hologram recording apparatus constituted by using this optical modulator, and a method of manufacturing the optical modulator. PSOLUTION: A spin injection magnetization reversal element 11 has a structure of the spin injection magnetization reversal element formed by layering a foundation layer 21, a fixed magnetized film layer 22, a non-magnetic intermediate film layer 23 and a free magnetized film layer 24, in this order. The magnetization direction in the fixed magnetized film layer 22 and the free magnetized film layer 24 is perpendicular to the film surface, and the foundation layer 21 is a silver film layer.
