PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for screening a barley seed, wherein operations are easy, a lot of specimens are treated in a short time period, the barley seed is exactly screened on the basis of a protein Z7 content, and the method is suitable for application to barley breeding. PSOLUTION: There is disclosed the method for screening the barley seed, wherein in a test barley seed, one or more genotypes are identified for each of a polymorphic marker A that is specified by multiply-aligning a base sequence at a peripheral region of the gene locus of protein Z7 in Haruna type and Kendall type barley seed and a polymorphic marker B that is specified by multiply-aligning a base sequence at a peripheral region of the gene locus of protein Z7 in Haruna type and Barke type barley seed, and wherein a test barley seed having a matched genotype with Haruna type is selected as a barley seed with a high protein Z7 content or a test barley seed having a matched genotype with Kendall or Barke type is selected as a barley seed with a low protein Z7 content.
