PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas analyzer for maintaining the element temperature of a semiconductor laser element to within a predetermined narrow temperature range, at all times. PSOLUTION: While the ambient temperature of the semiconductor laser element 12 is held by a heater 18 above an operating temperature range set for the element, the semiconductor laser element 12 is cooled by a Peltier element 13, at all times, based on the measured value of the element temperature of the semiconductor laser element 12 obtained by a temperature sensor 14 for maintaining the element temperature to within the operating temperature range. Under a temperature control, such as this, a switching operation for a relay, and the like., in an actual circuit is unnecessary and a wait time accompanying the switching is not generated, so that the element temperature can be always continuously controlled, and consequently, the element temperature can be maintained to within the predetermined narrow temperature range.
