PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soft magnetic steel material which is superior in wear resistance and also in magnetic properties after the soft magnetic steel material has been nitrided.;SOLUTION: The soft magnetic steel material to be nitrided superior in wear resistance includes 0.001-0.020% C (by mass%, hereinafter the same), 0.1% or less Si (excluding 0%), 0.1-0.5% Mn, 0.02% or less P (excluding 0%), 0.02% or less S (excluding 0%), 0.1% or less Cu (excluding 0%), 0.1% or less Ni (excluding 0%), 0.040% or less Al (excluding 0%) and 0.0040% or less N (excluding 0%), further 0.015-0.08% Nb and/or 0.01-0.1% Ti so as to satisfy expression (1): 8≤([Nb]+2×[Ti])/[N]≤60, wherein [Nb], [Ti] and [N] represent contents (mass%) of Nb, Ti and N respectively, and the balance iron with unavoidable impurities; and has a steel structure of a ferrite single phase.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
