PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt type continuously variable transmission capable of preventing fuel economy from worsening by reducing stirring resistance of lubrication oil by a belt or a gear of a differential mechanism to prevent oil temperature from rising.;SOLUTION: The belt type continuously variable transmission is equipped with a primary pulley 1, a secondary pulley 2, the differential mechanism 3 and a casing 4 for supporting them. The casing 4 is equipped with an air breather 5 and a strainer 6 for sucking lubrication oil retained at a bottom part of the casing 4 to above the primary pulley and the secondary pulley.
