PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel sheet stock for a positive electrode can which can improve battery characteristics of an alkali manganese battery. SOLUTION: In the plated steel sheet for the positive electrode can of the alkali manganese battery, the surface layer of the side to be used as the inside face of the can is provided with an Fe-Ni alloy plated layer of 0.1 to 1 m. It is also suitable that the lower layer of the Fe-Ni alloy plated layer is provided with an Fe-Ni diffusion plated layer or an Fe-Ni diffusion plated layer and an Ni plated layer. Desirably, the side to be used as the outside face of the can is provided with an Fe-Ni diffusion plated layer, and the surface thereof is provided with a recrystallized and softened Ni plated layer.
