PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a colorfully patterned coating film forming method suitable for forming, on a metal face, a protective film excellent in corrosion resistance and colorful design characteristics, a colorfully patterned coated article, and to provide a mending method for the colorfully patterned coated article. PSOLUTION: The colorfully patterned coating film forming method comprises the step of applying a primer coating (I) containing a rust preventive pigment on an existing coating face on a metal substrate or the surface of a metal substrate and coating the surface of the primer coating with an aqueous colorfully patterning coating (II). The aqueous colorfully patterning coating (II) contains colored coating particles (A) and a coating film forming constituent (B) in a ratio of colored coating particles (A)/coating film forming constituent (B) of 1/99 to 60/40 in terms of the solid mass ratio.
