How the host cell of Bacillus and Streptomyces containing a recombinant nucleic acid encoding a fusion protein comprising (SSI) protein Streptomyces subtilisin inhibitor signal sequence, generates the SSI protein using those cells it is provided with. In some embodiments, the host cell is a Streptomyces host cell, the signal sequence is a celA signal sequence. In another embodiment, the host cell is a host cell of the genus Bacillus having a genome comprising a gene that has been inactivated.
