PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave element suitable for mass production, and allows superior surface acoustic wave propagation performances to be stably demonstrated at all times, and also to provide an environmental difference detection apparatus employing such a surface acoustic wave element.;SOLUTION: This surface acoustic wave element is provided with: a three-dimensional substrate 12 having a surface including at least a part of an annular curved surface resulting from continuing curved surfaces whereon surface acoustic waves can be propagated; and an electric/acoustic conversion element 14 which allows a surface acoustic wave to be excited on the surface to propagate the surface acoustic wave along the surface and the propagating surface acoustic wave to be received. The three-dimensional substrate is a crystal and on the surface of the three-dimensional substrate, the electric/acoustic conversion element propagates the surface acoustic wave along an intersection of crystal faces of these crystals and the surface, where the intersection is the outermost peripheral line of the surface. The environmental difference detection apparatus compares surface acoustic wave reception signals of the electric/acoustic conversion element on a plurality of propagation surface bands of the surface acoustic wave element, and detects an environmental difference in spatial portions which are in contact with each other.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
